As many of you have found out updating AppleTV to 3.0 has removed Boxee from the Menu, if you're reading this and not comfortable with command lines, this is an easy process, that should take no more than a couple of minutes. Special thanks to the XBMC guys for solving this issue ... 1) "<a href="http://support.boxee.tv/forums/49598/entries/42684" target="_blank">patchstick</a>" the 3.0 ATV (You should just use your old patchstick you used previously on the ATV ) 2) <a href="http://support.boxee.tv/forums/49599/entries/42690" target="_blank">ssh</a> into it the ATV and download 3.2 Launcher Type: wget http://atv-xbmc-launcher.googlecode.com/files/Launcher-3.2.1-debug.run 3) Install the Launcher .  Type:  chmod +x Launcher-3.2.1-debug.run Type :  ./Launcher-3.2.1-debug.run Enter the appropriate password "frontrow"  and answer "Y" when it asks to restart the finder. 4) From your ATV Menu> Launcher > Downloads, install Boxee alpha 0.9.14.6992. Note: Please do not select the Launcher 3.1 5) Launch Boxee  from ATV Menu >Launcher >Boxee . Boxee is back... Enjoy! Worked great with my old patchstick and the instructions were flawless! All my settings were there as well. My ATV automatically updated to 3.0 so I was glad to see these instructions out so quickly. FYI... When I used Putty to SSH in to ATV ( I'm using Vista) I had to use frontrow@192.168.1.8 or whatever your ATV IP address is.   Simply using the IP address would not work for me.   My ATV had updated to 3.0 and i used my old patchstick.  Just follow the directions above and you should be good to go. FYI... I created a new patchstick (using FW 2.4) because, like poster evan hochstein, my previously created one didn't enable ssh access. I've successfully run the newly created patchstick, with no error messages, but still I'm unable to ssh into my ATV. My ATV is on 3.0.1 & as I said, patchstick ran with no probs but each time I try to ssh through terminal I get the message 'command not found'. This is extremely frustrating, as I very much want my Boxee back! :( Any help would be greatly appreciated. I got the Apple email about 3.0.1 earlier today and I went straight home to turn off auto updates. Forgot I left it on. Would be very frustrated if I lost Boxee again. As Steve Jobs says the Apple TV is a hobby device, I doubt they would put out a small update like this to block Boxee.  If more people use the Apple TV for what ever reason its more profitable for them.  I tell my buds that I'm watching all these videos on the Apple TV and then they would get one.  More money for Apple in the end.  And they don't have to support these 3rd party addons. She was so upset after she had to restart ATV in the middle of one of her shows; ATV updated itself on restart and Boxee vanished! I was at a loss, so your post was a welcome site! Can someone clarify one thing; I read in this chain that Boxee does not work yet for 3.0.1 but that a fix is in the works.  Is that the case?  From the title of this post it seems like people are actually successfully using Boxee on 3.0.1.  Personally, I always get the error code to reset by pushing play/pause when I launch Boxee. Thanks for the great info. Hello- so this is my first time trying to do all fo this- and while I have gotten through most if the bumps myself I now am completely stumped. I got the patchstick, I figured out how to connect via SSH but then it says to download the debug and launch it. BUt what program do I use to run it? Do I just stick that in the ATV on SSH too? Ugh. Laura, I sympathise with your frustration! If you have a read of the post above yours from Malcolm (particularly his response to Step 2 - launcher gets downloaded through the process of copying and pasting the lines beginning with 'wget' & 'chmod' into terminal following the preceding lines you've pasted), it might make things clearer. Unfortunately for the likes of you and me, sometimes there isn't enough detail in the steps laid out for achieving the end result, as assumptions are made that we'll logically deduce the bits that are missed out. (That's in no way intended as a criticism of the XBMC team by the way - just an observation.) I'm up and running with Boxee again now, so I'm sure you'll get there - it's definitely worth the effort. I've been reading through this forum and tried to do the update myself to my 3.0.1 AppleTV yesterday and today.  It didn't work at first but I found out that was due to using a Kingston drive that is a known issue.  I used a different drive tonight and when I started up my AppleTV all looked like it was working - it started with the Penguin / AppleTV logo and then all the command level text scrolled on the screen.  I never got any specific "completion" message and after letting it stick for 30 minutes or so my screen was blank. Thanks Malcolm - as you were posting I was recreating my patchstick.  It worked this time - and after following through the remaining instructions I'm all set.  Pretty stoked to have Pandora through AppleTV now.  Now if only there were a 2-way remote iPhone app (like Apple's remote one) for controlling it!  I downloaded the Boxee remote app but would love to be able to control it from my phone while listening outside away from my TV. I can make a patchstick, it hacks the ATV to a hacked 3.0. But ATV asks to update, I do so and the ATV is back to a regular 3.0.1 version. How do I make a 3.0.1 patchstick and hack the ATV to 3.0.1? Ok, so i got it working, but only through sheer luck and blind stupidity.   Today I tried everything all over again without success to ssh the final command: " ./Launcher-3.2.beta3-debug.run". Everytime I tried, it returned "Permission Denied" without even asking for a password. So, I browsed around alot for similar ssh problems and found this post on an unrelated site: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Other misc. notes: <ul> <li> If you are on a windows machine, use <a href="http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/%7Esgtatham/putty/" title="http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/">Putty</a> or other ssh clients to connect. </li> <li> The user "frontrow" has complete sudo privileges. To be root, do sudo -s and put in the password again (frontrow by default, remember?). </li> </ul> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So I guessed that MAYBE, if I am now a "root" user, I wont need a password. So i tried instead the ssh command (without the quotes of course) "sudo -s ./Launcher-3.2.beta3-debug.run" And it worked! Asked me for my password, I entered frontrow, and off it went exactly as otherwise desribed here!   So, now my Boxee works and i hope this helps someone else who gets stuck in the same spot. A word of warning though, apparently as a "root" user you can seriously f#@k things up if you do it wrong, so type your commands carefully.   Now, if I have some brownie points available for this fix, can someone advise how to improve the playback quality? Many of the Hulu sites are unwatchable the video is tracking SO slowly/jerkily/poor resolution, etc. Seems like the bandwitdh is horrible (I have DSL). I was able to update using the info provided but after a few moves between AppleTV and Boxee, the menu disappeared again.  The whole thing froze up and I had to restore the AppleTV to factory settings.  Any suggestions? I will wait to see if a normal installer is released later. Not sure what is going wrong. I followed all the directions and when I start boxee it gets to the login and then exits with a status code 6. I can't find any references on how to fix this. I have patchsticked several times with different patchsticks and always the same result. XBMC on the other hand runs just fine. Also, I still have a defunct "Software" menu, options are there, but nothing works at all. Is there a way to enable these or remove the Software menu from the interface? Any thoughts or help with this? Not sure what is going wrong. I followed all the directions and when I start boxee it gets to the login and then exits with a status code 6. I can't find any references on how to fix this. I have patchsticked several times with different patchsticks and always the same result. XBMC on the other hand runs just fine. Ryan - you need the IP address of your AppleTV unit. Go to your TV, use your Apple remote and get to the Apple TV screen.  Look for Settings, General, Network - something like that.  You will see your IP address for the Apply TV.  That is what you type after the @ sign. In order to ssh into the apple tv, do you have to have previously enabled this somehow? I'm getting an error when I try connecting and can't figure out how to get this working. I followed the instructions, installed Boxee but hulu feeds and fancast feeds go to a black screen. When black screen is paused the progress bar appears to be playing but no video. I'm having hours worth or problems, and i really need some help, please.  My system was updated to Apple 3.x ... so I found this post, and downloaded:  ATVUSB-Creator and the disc image: http://mesu.apple.com/data/OS/061-6242.20090624.Aq20P/2Z694-5660-029.dmg to create a Patchstick.  I made sure that "SSH Tools" was checked in ATVUSB-Creator when I did so.  Patchstick boots into the linux prompt, but I cannot for the life of me SSH to this thing.  When it's in AppleTV software, and I check the IP, it is assigned 192.168.1.3 ... I can't get to it when it is booted from the Patchstick though.  I also tried frontrow@appletv.local -- that doesn't work either.   I even tried a completely separate USB stick, same results.  What am I doing wrong?  When the AppleTV Patchstick boots, it's as though it's not getting an IP or something.  I'm having hours worth or problems, and i really need some help, please.  My system was updated to Apple 3.x ... so I found this post, and downloaded:  ATVUSB-Creator and the disc image: <a href="http://mesu.apple.com/data/OS/061-6242.20090624.Aq20P/2Z694-5660-029.dmg">http://mesu.apple.com/data/OS/061-6242.20090624.Aq20P/2Z694-5660-02...</a> to create a Patchstick.  I made sure that "SSH Tools" was checked in ATVUSB-Creator when I did so.  Patchstick boots into the linux prompt, but I cannot for the life of me SSH to this thing.  When it's in AppleTV software, and I check the IP, it is assigned 192.168.1.3 ... So this is my first time using boxee and i have spent a good part of the day trying to get what many users have said is a 3 min process to work. I've created a patchstick and have placed boxee on my Apple TV. it appears to be the APTV version 2.x i guess. i know its not the 3.0 most of the users on this forum were discussing back in november. Next i've located my terminal app and i typed in: ssh frontrow@ "plus my IP address" it the ask me for my password which should be frontrow. Hey all, I just reinstalled boxee on my atv after the update, and found it a little confusing at first, but then just 1) recreated the patchstick, 2) installed it on atv, 3) powering off the atv to reboot, then 4) through SSH Terminal accessed atv.  It was a little confusing, because when it asked for my password (frontrow), it didn't appear to allow me to type it on the screen, but I just typed it and hit enter and it allowed me to connect.  Whether or not that made a difference i have no idea. But then boxee was back on after I updated it through the launcher.    Now, I'm just adding to a few other posts on here about Hulu feeds not working.  Seems like another chapter in the endless saga with Hulu, but i'm getting the same "must update adobe" message, and/or just a blank screen after bouncing back and forth from the hulu webpage screen as before when the videos would actually play.   Also, one last bit..  any news on adding other channels to boxee? like TNT? I don't know about all you guys but My Boxee on Apple TV running 3.0.1 does not play hulu and a bunch of other applications. I can't update the third party software because the software menu is broken. I just installed Boxee without any problems. When trying to get Hulu it does not work - get a blank screen, although the timer counter counts. The same issue is with CBS - however other content works fine... What is the problem with Hulu and boxee - otherwise I am getting to like Boxee and its content. I've tried creating a patchstick four times now (XP) and it appears to work smoothly (as far as I can tell.)  When I put the patchstick into ATV and power up it goes straight into ATV every time.  Any suggestions?  I used to have boxee on my ATV and would dearly love to have it back again.  I saw some comment about how not all patchsticks work for this, but this is the one I used when I loaded it the first time...  Thanks for any help.
