GUYS GUYS....cool it down.  We didn't get the Netflix app  Tha's life.  But they did take the time to give us a PARTY Video. called MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE with them playing beer bottles.....which is just as good.  right?  You know this took some time....and they sure looked happy.

kinda sucks for those who was hoping to get a app....but at least they are happy.  That is all that matters.

The Boxee box does not support netflix in any country (including the US), but in the US the Boxee PC/MAC programs will support Netflix... so why not return the Box then right!?

Lazy programmers. Make January 3rd the official return your Boxee Box Day

So is it just Canadian netflix accounts that don't work? I am in the US and set up my boxee today and can't find the netflix app on the boxee, nor can I get on netflix.com from the boxee browser. All I get is a red and white screen of skwiggly lines. Anyone else having this problem in the US?

WHAT THE F@*&!

this is really ridiculous, How hard is it to work this problem out? which has been a problem from launch day ... My boxee has gotten plenty of regular updates which seem to only be making everything worse rather than better. yet with all these updates there can't be anything to be done for the netflix app? really? .... get on your game boxee programmers you are failing this challenge hardcore. I have never seen such a huge uproar of unsatisfied customers in such a short amount of time. and the biggest shocker of this is the fact that you still do nothing, I havn't heard any news on addressing this problem only rumours and whispers from hopeful customers. boxee is quickly becoming one of the biggest purchasing mistakes of my entertainment life

I think there needs to be some backlash for misleading customers in this way. 500 returned boxes @ $200 would mean 100,000 in refunds. This should be our goal for daily boxee box returns. So please tweet, post and email. January 3rd is the beginning of the Official return your Boxee Box Day(s).

Maybe we can get T-shirts made... "I sent my Boxee back before returns were cool"

Bad PR by you guys will end the great dreams we all had on Boxee. Get your act back on track, before everyone takes the great machine (best on the market) but poor service to the state of "what could have been".  I guess I'll just get the next choice WD live TV HUB.

So pretty much everyone in this discussion feels cheated by Boxee since there is no netflix on the box. The post office is not open on Jan-1 or Jan 2. So we should all make January 3rd the official return your Boxee Box Day unless the ?netflix app is ready tomorrow (12/31).

I am disappointed that Netflix does not support Linux. One of the reasons that I wanted a Boxee Box was the strong endorsement given by the Linux Journal.

The link above will take you to a discussion about this issue. It appears that the only way is to install Windows on a VM.

Seriously not cool that they advertise Netflix as a partner and don't have the capability on their machine. Christmas morning spent trying to figure out how to link with Netflix really sucked. Can't believe I wasted so much time just to find out it's not possible.

I contacted Boxee customer service in November regarding Netfilx not working on Boxee Box.  An answer from marcel hass stated that Netflix will be available by the end of this year. After downloading the latest December Upgrade my  Boxee Box still does not work with Netflix. I am giving them until December 31, 2010. If they do not make Netflix working on BB, I am sending it back on January 3rd and buying Apple TV.

Interesting to see that this string goes back over 1 year. I must admit I fell prey to the Boxee campaign with the hopes of connecting to Netfilx only to be another dissapointed customer. My Boxee is going back! If this is the way this company treats requests from their customers then It clearly is NOT worthy of my business. I will be sure to tell my freinds.  Good job!

question for everyone here,  i just bought a boxee from amazon and having issues with the netflix app.   I setup the service online but have no way of finding an actual netflix app on my boxee.   If I use the boxee browser and go directly to netflix,  i can not select the log in link to get to my account or anything for that matter.  what is the trick?   thanks in advance for any advice.

Let me be the next one to complain......  You have GOT to be kidding me.  Why doesn't the whole pretty "wizard-like" web page take note of the fact that I selected Ubuntu and then added my Netflix account?  You would think, right there, it would have stopped me and said, "Sorry, you are wasting your time.  This only works for M$ and Job$."....  Oh well... For about 30 seconds I was REALLY excited.  Honestly, the site SHOULD be more forthcoming with this critical information.  Since I refuse to put M$ on my media pc I guess I will continue to use Roku as my Netflix device.

When I saw Boxee supported Netflix I ran and signed up for an account as quick as I could - HOW COOL!

Now I see Linux users are left out of the loop, and my boxee client happens to be sitting very proudly on a Linux Mint installation. HOW COLD!

Do you see support in the future for Netflix service on the Linux side of life, where I choose to live?

Thanks for a nearly totally cool project :)  You all are great!

I have to agree with Johnny Stork. Is Boxee simply going to ignore our seemingly widespread problem in Canada with the Netflx app.  I paid for Boxee adf for Netflix and I am getting the benefit of neither. Come on guys. Do something. All this wasn't a surprise to you.

I will also put my support and LOUD REQUEST for Canadian Netflix support! It is also very disconcerting that so many people can all be asking a company for some sort of official response on this, some even paying customers of hardware, and we are all being ignored. I for one will be keeping my eyes open for an alternative solution and from a company that shows more respect for it's user-base.

I spent two days setting up a new box to install this to use netflix, only to find out it doesn't work with Ubuntu. What a load of horse kaka.

@Brandon

You Do know You can't watch Netflix in Ubuntu Period Right? Microsoft Refuses to release it's DRM Software on the Linux Platform and since Netflix Requires DRM it means you can't Watch it on Ubuntu. You can get the Netflix Player to Load if you get the "Novell Moonlight" Plugin (Linux Port of Silverlight) and use "UserAgent Switcher"(FF) to Pretend to be Using a Windows Machine. But the Player will just give you an Error that tells you to Restart your Browser and other junk. Simply without those DRM codecs from Microsoft you can't watch Netflix, Which is lame since AmazonVOD works Fine using Flash so why Netflix couldn't use Flash is a Mystery. Microsoft claims the reason DRM isn't on Linux is that "Moonlight still has too many Security Holes", Which I find is a Lame excuse. They could easily Work together with Mono to help get Moonlight up to Spec but they don't. It's not like they don't know it exists. If you go to the Silverlight Site on Linux and hit the Install button they Forward you to the Moonlight site. As far as I can tell there's no Real reason for them to Not help get DRM on Linux except that they Don't like Linux. The only reason Mac has support is that it's now Widely used and there would be a Big uproar if Microsoft didn't get Silverlight Working right on it. What's more, is that you can't even use Wine to install Windows Silverlight anymore. You used to be able to watch Netflix on Ubuntu by Installing Windows Firefox and Silverlight through Wine, then you just use the Windows Firefox to watch, but When Microsoft Released Version 3(or Something) of Silverlight the New Installer won't Run with Wine and Netflix Requires you to have the Latest Version to Watch. All this is very Frustrating for me who's Windows Install is Screwed up(No Sound) and I don't have Time to Backup, Reinstall Windows, and Reinstall all My Apps. I prefer Ubuntu anyway but for Now the Only way I can watch Netflix is to use Either my Family's Shared Computer, the Roku or the Kid's Wii but they or the TV's they're hooked to are often in use.

First off; Netflix needs to convert to Flash; Silverlight sucks. Secondly I tried to link my Netflix account with Boxee and it connected but everytime I tried to watch a movie; the loading bar would load up for awhile and then go back to the movie selection. I can't watch anything.

I also use Linux (Ubuntu) primarily and I would like to see support for that when it comes to the Netflix ordeal. I know; Boxee isn't Netflix so I can't suggest that but I saw another user who posted it here and I wanted to state that I agree 100% with them on the Linux incompatibility issue.

When will people realize; Linux is gaining more and more attention that it did back in the 90's?

Anybody else having an issue where the Boxee Netflix app lists the episodes of a season of TV out of order? Top to bottom or bottom to top aren't chronological. I have to use the IMDB app on my phone to see the correct episode order and select that way. I didn't know this was the case until I was watching Parks and Recreation and who was dating who was all out of order. I thought the show was some sort of polyamorous dream world until I realized it was boxee that had gone loco, not the writers.

Don't know why they don't have a fix already. But don't get too excited. I live in Toronto but use a VPN to trick Netflix into thinking I'm in the USA. Therefore I'm using a Netflix USA account with Boxee. It works, but when you browse the movies there is a DUPLICATE bug where the same movie shows multiple times, making the lists extremely difficult and time consuming to browse. I've looked at the forums and others have been having the same bug and it hasn't been fixed after quite some time. So even if they do correct the connection to Netflix Canada, there are many other bugs you'll experience once you login. Hopefully they will resolve all of these problems soon. It is very convenient to use Boxee, however with the DUPLICATE issue, I stick to the Netflix web site, which is much more reliable than the Boxee app.

It logs in with out a problem and I can see all the tv shows and movies. But when I pic something it will just sit there and not play.

So maybe they just need to do some patching with this app to work.

I've been using the Netflix app for months now.. didn't experience a problem until upgrading to Boxee version 0.9.22.13692.  Renaming the Netflix app folders didn't help.  Neither did reinstalling that version of Boxee.  The problems with playing Netflix videos were random.. sometimes they would play and sometimes it would just sit at a black screen.. and the problem videos were totally random (same video would sometimes play).  Anyway, I uninstalled Boxee and downgraded back to version 0.9.21.11487 and have not had that problem again.  I don't have access to alpha versions of Boxee so I'm unable to test those.

Roku Uses Hardware and Closed Source Software to decode the DRM while the Only method they've made for PCs is Silverlight. Same with the PS3, 360, and Wii. What I don't get is why they use Silverlight and not Flash. I mean seriously Amazon uses Flash and it works fine, they even get New Releases like Sherlock Holmes and Avatar so Obviously they're satisfying Big Movie Companies with Flash so why can't Netflix do the same? I mean Seriously, Netflix already Runs on Amazon's Servers/Server Architecture.

This has been an annoyance for a while... but the episodes don't always sort properly. If netflix has 'em as just Episode 1, Episode 2 etc - it seems to alphabetize them, but otherwise they're the way wrong order.

For instance? Check out Bones Season 2 on the netflix app vs. the episode list on netflix proper.

Does or will soon the Boxee Box stream Netflix HD content?

The only box I have found on the internet that EXPLICITLY lists support for Netflix HD is Roku HDxr.  Everything else, streaming dvd players from Samsung, Sony and LG as well as streaming TVs, say Netflix but fail to mention HD support.

If the Boxee Box wants to be the only box people put in their living room it needs to stream premium services like Netflix in HD. Hulu should be following as well, now that they are charging for premium content.

I don't think people want to have a Roku for Netflix HD, a Boxee for a bunch of other stuff, and a computer hooked up only to stream Hulu in a browser.

Welcome to the frontier.

I have a problem with Netflix app in Boxee. When I want to watch DVD that has multiple episodes, episodes usually start from close to the end and I have to wait for them to finish to be able to start them from the beginning. Windows Media Center has "Start from the beginning" button that does the trick. Can you please introduce this button as well, and not just play button? It seems that Netflix server remembers where the playback was stopped last time video was watched and will not start from the beginning??

@Jesse however see this http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/faq.aspx

Netflix does not work with Moonlight at this time. While Moonlight supports all of the UI and media playback infrastructure, it lacks DRM support which Netflix requires.

I can't even get through the "authorization" step.  It takes me to /netflix/netflix/ and says the page doesn't exist!

Can this thread please be cross-referenced to appear under the Operating System Issues section? I see handfuls of people posting in places like cragislist forums wondering if linux boxee supports Netflix on-demand; I don't know if looking under the Applications section is necessarily going to come to someone's mind who's strictly purposed to find out Linux & Netflix status. Yeah, it just takes a few more clicks to get the answer they want now but on the same token, it'll take just a few more lines of HTML on a page that will likely ensure a more positive user experience.

Netflix has worked for awhile for me, whether on the alpha or the beta.  At first, the queue would show, but movies wouldn't play.  Now when I click the Netflix app, it just kind of blinks then goes back to the main apps screen

Should TV Shows in my Netflix Instant Queue appear in Boxee?

I have found that TV shows in my Netflix Instant Queue (eg: Spartacus: Blood and Sand) do not appear in the Netflix App in Boxee.  Is this a known limitation?

Also, one thought to improve the user experience: When going through the Boxee Movies or TV Shows section, include videos from Netflix in listings/search/browsing, rather than separating them out through the Netflix app.

Cheers!

I operate on  Mac OS Snow Leopard. I  actually resolved this just issue by going to account => services and then clicking on the option to authorize netflix. It was pretty straightforward, but I didn't realize at first that from account you had to click services.

Guys

Can you try and rename the Netflix folders to netflix .old under :

Leopard:
1.~/Library/Application support/BOXEE/Userdata/apps
2.~/library/Application support/BOXEE/Userdata/profiles/[profile name]/apps/

win7:

1.c:\Users\<windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\BOXEE\userdata\apps\

2.c:\Users\<windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\BOXEE\userdata\profiles\[profile name]\apps\

And try again..if this works please send me both the old netflix files to marcel@boxee.tv

Same issue as Shane Mullen, but on WIndows 7. It's stuck on the 'connecting the netflix' screen.

Thanks @seth.

It's a shame that Netflix has decided to limit their options.

Ubuntu Netflix support is likely never to arrive. Netflix video on demand (VOD) is built on top of a proprietary web platform called Silverlight. Until Microsoft releases Silverlight for Ubuntu, it's unlikely to see netflix VOD on Ubuntu. Not really much Boxee developers can do on this issue. Oh, and Microsoft has decided not to support PPC Mac OS X for Silverlight. So Neflix streaming will only be on Intel Mac OS X and Windows computers.

The Moonlight folks are trying their hardest to reverse-engineer Silverlight 2, but their release seems to be behind schedule.
